Weird Picks #112: Arcane Comet Domination Janna

Back in style is a highly offensive Janna specializing in early game harass and high impact mid-to-late game plays. Traditionally, Janna players have always went for Summon Aery combined with either Inspiration or Resolve, but pro players are starting to pick up a more interactive role directed at the mid-game instead.

This build also opts for mostly active items in order to maximize the rune usage. See below for a small snapshot from probuilds:

How to Play
Abilities: W, E, Q then prioritize R > W > E > Q
Summoner Spells: Flash + Ignite
Starting Items: Spellthief's Edge + Health Potions
Core Items: Remnant of the Watchers, Boots of Mobility, Mikael's Crucible, Ardent Censer, Locket of the Iron Solari

Rune Setup

How It Works

High In-Lane Harass
This build's major difference from Janna's standard build is the higher trade potential. By using Arcane Comet and Taste of Blood, she gets increased trade power and can abuse melee champions heavily during the laning phase.

Mid-Game Item Queen
Ingenious Hunter gives her quite a bit of item cooldown (40% at max stacks) and applies to trinkets as well. By getting this mastery on Janna she ends up insanely powerful with all her items actives up every fight. It also greatly increases her ability to control the map.

Potential Pitfalls

Susceptible to Burst Damage and Lower Gold
Grabbing this secondary over Resolve or Inspiration leaves Janna a bit squishier or reduced in gold value. However, the 40% late game cooldown on items is very worth it.

Lower Shield Power
Dropping Summon Aery is debatable, and personally I'd probably choose to pick it up for the extra allied shield power. Without Summon Aery, she's much more focused on offense than her standard peel role.

Conclusions

Any way you look at it, the Domination tree is exceedingly powerful and it's somewhat surprisingly that players haven't been doing this sooner. Domination is still low on secondary rune choices for Janna, sitting at a mere 20% but also placing highest on win rate. I think it's definitely worth a go.

Suggested Tier: Tier 1
