2015 Champion Tier List - Ranked 3s Twisted Treeline - Patch 5.15 Update

Hi everyone and welcome to the latest in the Twisted Treeline tier list series! I had a chance to play a decent amount on TT lately and managed to get a team to diamond on my smurf (not sure why I did that on my smurf, but there it is...) Anyway, the meta seems to be a bit more balanced now in terms of metagame, and the trinket change definitely changed a lot of things.

SEASON 5 -  PATCH 5.15 RANKED 3'S TIER LIST
THE TWISTED TREELINE

Introduction

Hi everyone and welcome to the latest in the Twisted Treeline tier list series! I had a chance to play a decent amount on TT lately and managed to get a team to diamond on my smurf (not sure why I did that on my smurf, but there it is...) Anyway, the meta seems to be a bit more balanced now in terms of metagame, and the trinket change definitely changed a lot of things.

Trinket Change - Hextech Sweeper

The new trinket has a really solid range, which allows you to check around corners and over walls for possible enemy threats, especially the bush below:

It also has the added bonus of revealing invisible units, especially ones like Wukong. This means that using his W as an escape mechanism is nearly impossible now (especially with the range on that thing.)

Other Notable Changes

Lastly, the final notable change is the change in jungle items (yes, it's been a while since the last update). The shift from madreds to the Skirmisher Sabre, Rangers, etc. has increased jungler power somewhat, making the support meta somewhat weaker, though still viable.

Current Metagame
Right now there are two main methods of playing Twisted Treeline:
  1. Duo top with a support like Leona or Annie
  2. Two solo lanes with a jungler
It seems for the most part higher tier teams prefer the support meta running exhaust + ignite, whereas lower divisions seem to do better with the level advantage from having a jungler.

Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.

Tier 4 [Not Played Often]: Everybody else. Not to say that you can't win with other champions, but for the most part the ones above will give you plenty to work with. Feel free to try out other strategies and post your experiences in the comment section below!

    AD/AP Positioning

Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes.

This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.

    Champion Explanations

    • Anivia [Tier 2 Bot] - As a 1v1 damage dealer, Anivia can easily hold her own in lane. Her early game waveclear tends to be a bit weak compared to other popular picks, so she doesn't fit well if your team is planning on pushing and invading early. However, her late game is quite strong and she scales well into teamfights.
    • Ekko [Tier 3 Top] - After the nerfs on Ekko, he's still kinda playable, but nobody really runs him anymore.
    • Galio [Tier 2 Bot] - Although he's rarely played, he works well in a lot of team comps with heavy damage dealers in the other two roles. Galio has excellent waveclear and plenty of free stats from his shield. Of course, there's also his potentially teamfight changing ultimate.
    • Gnar [Tier 2 Bot] - One of the only AD based bot laners you'll likely see on the map, Gnar does decently using his long range clear and good all-in potential. He's probably still better top, but it does happen on occasion and scales well into late game.
    • Gragas [Tier 1 Jungle] - Arguably the strongest invading jungler at the moment, Gragas has enough early game CC, mobility, and tankiness to stay healthy during his own clear and quickly invade safely into the enemy jungle. He also scales well into late game as he doesn't need to build damage to get damage.
    • Jarvan IV [Tier 1 Top] - Jarvan is much stronger in jungle and honestly almost never seen as a solo top laner. However, he's still very strong as a top laner and can hold his own.
    • Pantheon [Tier 1 Top] - Pantheon has an extremely strong laning phase followed up by an impressively mobile mid to late game. His ability to ult from halfway across the map allows him to quickly re-engage teamfights or join after a split-push.
    • Trundle [Tier 1 Support] - Trundle support works surprisingly well in 3s, similar to how he is in 5s. He does well against tanky champions via his ultimate, and synergizes extremely well with Anivia's wall to block off entire lanes early in the game.
    • Viktor [Tier 1 Bot] - Again, similar to 5s, Viktor is extremely strong as a 1v1 duelist and also deals extremely powerful AOE damage as well. His mobility from his speed boost allows him to stay relatively safe from skillshots, and his slow/stun is extremely effective in the tight corridors on this map.
    Disclaimer:
    • The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.
    • While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and hope that they'll introduce the solo queue 3v3 some day.
    • That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!
