Top Team Comps #55: Season 5 Pure Damage Comp

As you may have guessed, this team focuses on raw damage to get things done. It's somewhat more of a premade stomp team, where you want to crush an enemy team as hard as possible, and think that you're all hot stuff with the abilities to do so.

This is the kind of team where the goal is to get as many kill as possible, and although Akali will always have the upper hand when it comes to sheer KSing power, each of these champions can easily snowball in overwhelming fashion

Team Composition Score Card

Theme

As you may have guessed, this team focuses on raw damage to get things done. It's somewhat more of a premade stomp team, where you want to crush an enemy team as hard as possible, and think that you're all hot stuff with the abilities to do so.

This is the kind of team where the goal is to get as many kill as possible, and although Akali will always have the upper hand when it comes to sheer KSing power, each of these champions can easily snowball in overwhelming fashion.

Champions

Graves [Marksman] - Despite nerfs to Graves, he remains a strong duelist and deals a massive amount of burst damage. This works well in a pure damage comp, as burst casters generally require much less peel than say a champion like Vayne. His early to mid game is also very powerful, which is crucial to working with an all damage team.

Talon [Mid] - Similar to Graves, Talon throws down a massive amount of burst damage from the get-go. This combined with a well timed Black Cleaver purchase means that enemies won't be thinking about going on the offense, and instead simply trying to stay alive and peel against Talon. Although other assassins may have higher single target burst, Talon's ability to cause general chaos works well in pure damage comps.

Brand [Support] - As the entire team is burst damage based, there's very little peeling required. Instead, putting Brand into the mix synergizes very well with the team as his base damage and insanely good passive provide a strong wave of magic damage, making the team difficult to itemize against. He also does extremely well with Graves, and can nearly guarantee a kill on just about anyone bot lane as soon as he hits a stun anywhere from level 2 and beyond.

Evelynn [Jungler] - My usual go-to for a pure damage composition is Fiddlesticks, but at the moment I think that Evelynn works insanely well, especially with her percentage based damage. Against this team, their worst nightmare is being unable to snowball against a tank heavy team. However, with Evelynn in the mix, she provides a semi-frontline as well as a massively high source of percentage based damage.

Akali [Top Laner] - With the latest buffs to Akali, she's become an extremely powerful trader top lane, and the perfect finisher to damage compositions. Although she'll likely end up with the majority of the kills whether she deserves it or not, her ability to sustain during fights and finish up low HP heroes works insanely well in this burst composition.

Key Concepts

  • This team requires relatively little synergy and is an overall mash-up of simply being close enough to cast spells.
  • While this team is poor when behind, Evelynn's early game snowball should allow the team to stay relevant until level 6, at which their relevance and roam power increases dramatically.
  • Pressure advantages and make sure not to go too crazy with the kill competition, as enemy teams with strong AOE power can definitely still come back, especially with 3 semi-squishy dive champions.

Countering

To counter this team, a team that's strong against diving champions works extremely well.

Here's an example team that may succeed:
  • Cho'Gath [Mid] - The ultimate anti-assassin, Cho'Gath does very well zoning backline champions and staying alive through initial burst damage.
  • Maokai [Jungle] - Against this much AOE damage, Maokai's ultimate is key in keeping your team alive. His CC also comes in extremely handy when trying to pin down would-be assassins.
  • Heimerdinger [Top] - The ultimate anti-dive champion, Heimerdinger can pressure Akali's early game extremely hard and bait with his Zhonyas. If he does fall behind though, it'll quickly become a very painful game.
  • Janna [Support] - With two separate abilities capable of stopping Akali's jump, Janna is an absolutely vital peeling machine. However, try not to ult everyone away from Heimer's turrets.
  • Vayne [ADC] - Against Akali and Talon, pretty much no ADC has much of a chance to stay alive. However, in Vayne's case, her invisibility and self-peel can at least deny Akali from snowballing. Additionally, her natural life steal build allows her to get back into the game providing her peel can keep her from getting two-shot.

  2. I'd say a pure dmg should be katarina mid, riven top and leave the rest. Though, I'm not pretty sure about evelynn. I haven't played her since i was bronze (im middle gold) but I still i don't have many good thoughts about her. However, this is a "win-'till-30:00-comes-or-gg", so she might work then.

  3. Well, actually when I read the "pure damage" in header, Katarina and Fiora come up in my mind... Riven and Brand have a stun anyway...

Comps like this always make me sad. Either you stomp them and they cry about feeding and bullshit or they stomp you and don't stop all chatting about how good yasuo is when he loses lane but then afk farms a lot.

It doesn't get better. I play at a low Plat mmr in ranked and I was bronze as recently as mid last season. Plat players might be the most toxic I have come across. They all think their team s holding them back from taking the step t being A. An ultra famous streamer B. Making it to challenger where they belong or C. Getting noticed by an lcs team

Sorry if it's a downer. I play with friends all the way from bronze 3 to diamond 2 and we all whine about the same stuff. League is a competitive, stressful game that can turn on a dime. Those are equally great and terrible qualities that churn out amazing game play and a toxic community.

Nah, I kinda expected as much. Just praying for something different. I'll survive. I've found that the trick to success is to play with 4 friends and turn off all chat.

A couple slows and a hard to hit single target stun. How does this team get anything other than "F" in CC?

  12. Here's a team comp idea. The stacks team: Nasus/Veigar/Sion(jung)/Bard/Thresh(ADC). All the champs with an infinite stacking mechanic. (Bards meep damage theoretically has no limit with enough chimes, although it's by far the least practical to stack on this team)
